THE PHILIPPINE
CENTER Update – February, 2003
By
Dr. Ely Suson
(What follows is a condensed update on the
Philippine Center. In an issue of the Philippine Newsletter, to be
released in a few weeks, important information will be given in greater detail.)
Financial Status of the Philippine Cultural and Civic Center
Foundation, Inc.
The total amount in the PCCCF, Inc.
treasury to date is $117, 666.00 of which
$111, 520.00 is under the building fund
and $6,146.00 under the Free Medical Clinic. However, $10,000.00 has to be paid
to the first prize winner of the December 8, 2002 raffle and $800.00 to the
second prize winner. The third prize is donated by Drs. Juanito and Violeta
Singson. With these considerations, the total amount in the treasury will be
$116,866.00. If we include the $8,000.00 which is expected from the Suson
Charitable Lead Trust soon, the total amount in our treasury will be
$115,866.00.
The main sources of the money for the
year 2002 include the following:
Fund-raiser chaired by Ed Sandoval: $36,000,137.00
Raffle: $25,000.00.
Suson Charitable Lead Trust: $8,000.00.
Joe Yamat, Jr.-RBC Dain Rauscher: Because of some
technicality none was given last year. However, $4,000.00 will be given this
year. $2,000.00 a year will be given, thereafter, for a total of ten years from
the time the pledge was started.
PMAW: $7,000.00.
UPAAW: $500.00.
Donations to the Free Medical Clinic are mentioned in a separate column filed by
Dr. Violeta A. Singson. We would like to thank the numerous generous
donors who have made our undertaking a big success.

Philippine Martial Arts Seminars, March 15 – 30, 2003
This promises to be one of the biggest
Philippine cultural events in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois for the year
2003. Planned under the auspices of the Philippine Cultural and Civic Center
Foundation, Inc. and elaborately structured with Tom Sipin and John Suson as the
main architects, it features an international figure in Philippine martial arts
in the person of Mr.Val Pableo. Of the organizers, Tom Sipin is an
internationally recognized practitioner and teacher and John Suson, an
ophthalmologist, is an ardent student of the art.
The venues of these seminars will include
the following martial arts centers: Four Winds (under Tom Sipin), JK Lee, Larry Struck and Rob Serrano’s Martial Arts in America in the Milwaukee area. North
Shore Academy (under March Halleck) in Libertyville,
Illinois. Valley View Karate (under Joe Swayne) in La
Crosse, Wisconsin. Fred
Degerberg Academy (under Fred Degerberg) and Joe Connelly in Chicago.
Arrangements are being made to include the Army Reserve Unit of Shane Dana
(a friend of John Suson) in the schedule.
The seminars will be highlighted by a final
event on March 23, from 12:00 Noon to 4:30 PM at the Philippine Center in St.
Francis. It will feature Philippine Martial Arts demonstrations interspersed
with gems of Philippine culture, such as songs and dances.

our progress.
